The US Navy Wants Pilots to Report UFO Sightings

The US Navy is drafting new guidelines for pilots and personnel to report sightings of unexplained aerial phenomena, colloquially known as UFOs.

The Navy told Politico on Tuesday that the decision was made in response to recent sightings of unidentifiable aircraft spotted near protected airspace and naval and air formations.

“There have been a number of reports of unauthorized and/or unidentified aircraft entering various military-controlled ranges and designated airspace in recent years,” the Navy said in a statement to Politico. “For safety and security concerns, the Navy and the [US Air Force] takes these reports very seriously and investigates each and every report.”

In November, pilots for British Airways and Virgin Airways reported bright, quickly moving lights off the Irish coast. “We saw a bright light and then it disappeared at a very high speed,” the British Airways pilot, who was flying from Canada to the UK, told air traffic control in a recording. “We don’t think it was on a collision course, but we were wondering what it could’ve been.”

According to the Navy statement to Politico, the new guidelines would formalize a process for reporting unusual findings, like the sighting of an unexplainable aircraft. “The Navy is updating and formalizing the process by which reports of any such suspected incursions can be made to the cognizant authorities,” said the statement.

A 2017 report from the New York Times found that the Pentagon dedicated $22 million to an office called the Advanced Aerospace Threat Identification Program (AATIP) that investigated reports of unidentified flying objects. The office was officially shut down in 2012, the New York Times reported, but officials continued to investigate sightings while performing their other duties.

Topics studied by AATIP included invisibility cloaking, wormholes, and “the manipulation of extra dimensions,” a freedom of information request later revealed.

Luis Elizondo, a retired Pentagon official who previously ran that office, told Politico that personnel aren’t encouraged to report sightings. “If you are in a busy airport and see something you are supposed to say something,” Elizondo said. “With our own military members it is kind of the opposite: ‘If you do see something, don’t say something.'” NOTE: The above image is GCI.

SUMMER 2003 TRUCKUM VALLEY ALABAMA UFO ENCOUNTER

According to reporter, Wayne Ruple, in the summer of 2003, while on routine patrol in the Trickum Valley area of Alabama, two Cleburne County deputies would suddenly find their entire vehicle bathed in a bright, urgent light.

It was obvious to the two officers that whatever the source of the light was, it was hovering over the top of their vehicle. And seemingly keeping pace with it. The deputy behind the wheel would increase the speed of the car in an attempt to outrun it. However, no matter how fast he went, the light would maintain a similar pace.

Eventually, the officers would pull the car to the side of the road and prepared to investigate what the object above them might be. Almost as soon as they left their vehicle the object vanished. However, as they made attempts to restart their vehicle it was clear that all of the electrics were dead. The officers could start the engine and drive, but none of the electrics such as the headlights were active. They proceeded with caution.

As they did so, they would spot several campers near the lonely road. When they stopped to ask if they had seen anything strange, all replied of seeing a strange, bright light.

Incidentally, one of the deputies involved had witnessed an extremely similar sighting almost exactly a year previously while off duty with his son. Furthermore, in a particularly unnerving encounter, the previous year he had witnessed a similarly strange light in the woodlands of the area. When he went to investigate, he would, momentarily, find himself directly in front of the strange light. He would recall how it looked like “a man sitting inside a bubble-type” cockpit. A Strange Moving Light Over the Wedowee Poultry Plant

The MUFON investigation wouldn’t begin until May 1997. Consequently, the exact date of the incident is unknown, other than it was 1995, and during the autumn or winter months due to both the colder temperature recalled by the witnesses, as well as the fact it was dark at 7 pm (when the incident occurred).

Like the date, the exact number of witnesses varies depending on the source. However, it would appear that between 10 to 12 members of church ladies’ group from LaGrange, Georgia were traveling to a church in Anniston, Alabama as part of an organized cross-state “bingo” trip. Their driver was also a member of their church in LaGrange, as well as a respected businessman in their community.

It was a journey they had made several times before. So much so, that each was waiting in dread-like anticipation for their small bus to go past the poultry plant in Wedowee that was on their route and for the ungodly stench from its buildings to infiltrate their vehicle and assault their nostrils without mercy or discrimination. As they went by on this evening, however, it wasn’t what they could smell that got their attention, but what they could see.

Over the plant, they could see a strange light. At first, they thought it was part of the main building itself and questioned why such a bright light was positioned there. However, as the light began to move one of the passengers would announce, “It’s not a light, but some flying thing”.

Almost immediately following, the light suddenly began to head in their direction. The driver increased the speed slightly. The strange glow continued to follow them, with each of those on board now very much aware of the strange events unfolding around them.

A Humanoid Shape Inside The Orb – “Like A Human Embryo”

The strange light would maintain its distance of approximately 50 feet while flying at a height of around 10-12 feet above awestruck driver and passengers. Many of the witnesses would describe the object as an orb or lightbulb. Two of them would even claim to have seen a “humanoid shape” moving inside the brightness of the intense glow. The more they stared at the strange object and the longer the incident continued the more unnerved the witnesses became.

Many of the passengers began to duck in their seats so their heads were not exposed in the glass windows. Each would take a quick peek outside on occasion before ducking back down again.

Perhaps of more concern was a “strange beam of light” that several of the passengers claimed emerged from the orb and “hurt their eyes”. Another witness would describe this beam as having a “sparkling effect” while another would state that the beam came through the window as if some had flicked a switch. Incidentally, several of the passengers would report extreme soreness and irritation of the eyes in the days that would follow.

The driver would take the vehicle into an underpass. When the light didn’t follow, he and the passengers thought perhaps they had lost it or it had given up the chase. However, upon emerging from the other side of the tunnel, the light was there, hovering above, as if anticipating and waiting for their arrival. The pursuit would continue for several more minutes until the van came to an intersection and stopped. The light, rather than stopping, the light continued over a field before it suddenly accelerated vertically. It moved so fast it left a visible streak in the witness’s eyesight for several seconds. Then, it was the size of a star which suddenly vanished.

Hi Ken : I was sky watching when I spotted a luminous object approaching. The object was sphere shaped and the top half was blue while the bottom half was white. The sphere moved very slowly across the night sky before coming to a stop. The sphere just hung there in the sky like it was waiting for something. I looked through my binoculars at the sphere looking for a conventional explanation but there was none it was definitely odd and unusual. After a while of watching the sphere I then spotted a larger object that was approaching from the west. This larger object was shaped like a gherkin. The gherkin shaped object glowed different colours as it moved and got closer. As soon as the gherkin shaped object was near and in front of the sphere it seemed to somehow attach it’s self to the sphere by using light. It was like the tractor beam out of star trek. The beam appeared to fluctuate in brightness as it began to pull the sphere. I quickly took a photograph and watched in amazement as the gherkin shaped object pulled the Sphere away across the night sky and off in to the distance. I was speechless. I have seen a lot of UFOs but I have never seen anything like this before it was really incredible to witness this. I have been sky watching a lot lately and have seen and photographed some very unusual things. Why do I see UFOs on a regular basis? I was in Westerly, Rhode Island videotaping the moon, a close up during day time when suddenly I noticed through my camera viewfinder an UFO crossing the screen. Once disappeared from my viewfinder I look up and I did not see it again. It was very far away in comparison with the moon. It looked like an orb of light. There was not stray of smoke or any other sign like an airplane. It was moving in a diagonal line from north to south west (from my stand point)  I thought it was an UFO. I showed the video to a couple a guys who were at short distance from me and they thought it was a flying source.  I kept looking up and continue videotaping the moon in case I can see it again but nothing happened.

“The destruction or disappearance of military aircraft during interceptions of UFOs continued apace.” As General Benjamin Chidlaw, former commanding general of Air (later Aerospace) Defense Command told Robert C. Gardener (ex USAF) in 1953: “We have stack of reports of flying saucers. We take them seriously, when you consider we have lost many men and planes trying to intercept them.” Leonard Springfield, the former Air Force intelligence officer was told by a reliable source in the 1950s that the “Air Force was losing about a plane a day to the UFOs.”Stringfield was reliably informed. According to US Defense Department figures, from 1952 until the end of October 1956, there were 18,662 major accidents of military aircraft, broken down as follows:

Of this astonishing total, most involved fast new jets (such as those scrambled in UFO interceptions), of which 56.2 per cent were found to be caused by pilot error; 8.1 per cent by ground-crew or other personnel failure; 23.4 per cent by failure of parts and equipment in the aircraft; 2.8 per cent by various ‘unsafe conditions’, and –9.5 per cent (1,773) were due to ‘unknown factors’. Thanks to Timothy Good’ book, “Need to Know” P.172  Comments: When I chased a UFO we exceeded the red lined aircraft air speed by 20 knots. In the excitement of the chase it is easy to exceed aircraft capabilities and often some part of the aircraft may fail. Many stories are told of firing missiles and making direct hits on the UFOs that were unharmed only to have them return the fire and destroy the interceptor.

Lt. Chidlaw entered the Air Corps Engineering School at Wright Field, Ohio, and later directed the development of the United States’ original jet engine and jet aircraft. He spent most of his career at Wright Field which established Chidlaw as an expert on materiel, especially aircraft. He became chief of the experimental Engineering Branch, where he monitored the jet engine development. In March 1945, he took command of the Mediterranean Allied Tactical Air Forces and was promoted to major general the next month.

Chidlaw returned to Wright Field in July 1945 as deputy commanding general for operations of what became Air Materiel Command (amc). He was flown to Roswell, New Mexico at the time of the UFO crash announcement in July of 1947. In October 1947, he became deputy commanding general of amc, with rank of lieutenant general, and full commander on September 1, 1949. General Chidlaw was given the task to evaluate UFO sightings and his group agreed the phenomena was real and approved the Research and Development Board. It is likely his team attempted to back engineer and develop their own flying discs.

Hi, my name is David but please don`t use my last name. I just got out of work, and was heading to my cabin to go bow hunting.  Don’t remember exact day. It was approximately 11:50 P.M. on route 20 in the town of Brant, NY. It was an extremely dark night. I was traveling west on Rt 20, and saw a bright light above the road. I am guessing I was over 1 mile away. As I got a little closer I could see cars pulled over on the side of the road. I thought maybe there was an accident, and a helicopter was landing. When I got up to the cars pulled over on both sides of the road I saw no accident, and noticed some type of craft barely over the trees with a bright light in the center. I pulled over, and shut my truck off, and opened the window. It appeared to be triangular shaped, no sound at all, and moving extremely slowly. It was  80 – 100 feet off the ground. I estimate I saw it for 1 minute while driving, and 3 – 4 minutes sitting directly under it. It was huge. I had 2 cars in front of me facing west, and 1 on other side of the road going east. When we finally couldn`t see it everyone started their cars, and left! Wish I would have got out, and spoke to the people, or reported it. Summary: A VERY large, Boomerang-shaped object tracked across the sky in a NE direction just after full dark.

I wish I had not waited months to reports this, but until recently did not know who to report it to. I saw a television program that described your field researchers and I liked that your set scientific and observational standards. I do not like wild speculation and absurd conjectures as I often see in deranged programs like UFO Hunters or whatever it is called. I like mysteries to be approached rationally. This brings me back to the night of August 11, 2010. I have long wondered if anyone else had reported anything for that night. Soon after the event, I posted an oblique statement on my Facebook page “Did anyone else see that?” simply so I would not forget the date and time. I do not jump to conclusions, but I have also failed to find a prosaic explanation for the event.   There were two other people with me who saw the strange object. I will leave their names off of here for the time being. [They live nearby, but I have not asked their permission to include them in this report.] We were standing in my driveway just after full dark. It was likely between 8 and 9pm. Checking the time for full darkness at the time of the year should some up with a very close approximate time. There was a bright moon shinning in the in the southeast quadrant of the sky. I think if it were not for that, we would have seen nothing.   I was facing north toward my companions as we stood there talking. The evening was pleasant and it had grown dark. It was not unusual for us to stand outside and talk although we were about to say goodnight. One of my companions was looking behind me and saw it first. She made a gasping noise or other sound while looking into the sky behind me. I turned to see what she was looking at. We live about 20 miles from Philadelphia International Airport in the town of Richwood, NJ and frequently have large numbers of commercial airliners circling overhead. I expected something of this sort. What I saw was very different.  I turned to look south and saw it almost immediately or at least the impression of it. I also said a rather surprising swear word which I would not normally use in this company. The object was moving quickly in a east-north-east direction [toward the Delaware River and Chester, PA] and at first it was just a suggestion of movement because it was black against black. It was simply a different shape of black flying with no lights at all. The moonlight caught on the shape and revealed it as the sharp-angled boomerang without further detail to the surface.  It annoys me to report it as an angular boomerang shape because I know there have been many other reports like that. It was very large in the sky. Much larger than the commercial airliners we see daily on their approach to Philadelphia. I do not know what altitude the circling airliners are at this point in their approach, but that is probably not too difficult to find out. Their windows are easily visible. This was far larger than those. There were no airplanes in sight at the time of the event.

The trouble is that for it to be that size it would have to have been either unusually low and close to us or farther away and unbelievably vast in size. The object cruised quickly by without the slightest sound or change in speed or altitude. I hoped it would pass in front of the moon, but unfortunately it moved “beneath” where the moon was and was quickly lost to view in the dark. It was moving fast but without knowing the distance I would not guess at its speed. It was gone before there was much chance of further reaction. I turned to my companions and we were all equally dumbfounded. There was nothing more to do except head inside. I typed the note on Facebook so I would not forget, but I also had hoped someone else might say something. It was a long shot. No one else reported anything.

I have seen stealth bombers flying in the desert and they are huge. This object was at LEAST that large, but I felt it was larger still. The stealth was my best suspect as I racked my brain, but it does not make sense. For a stealth to be that large, it would have to be too close. Why would a bomber be flying so low in a densely populated area? A stealth can easily fly above local air traffic. Flying without lights would be extremely dangerous around this crowded airspace even if you were training the crew in radar evasion.  NOTE: The above image is CGI.

The night off 17 February 1991 I was walking the night shift watch on the military base off Soesterberg in the Netherlands. Along with a other cadet I came at the central parking lot at 03.00 hour and notes a big circle in the sky strait on top off us. It had no shape but only bight lights slowly rotating anti-clockwise and the light points its self didn’t rotate, the colours did ant in a liquid manor. I estimate the object abbot 30/50 meters in diameter. The first thing we both thought was a blimp, a zeppelin, the one like GoodYear has with the light screens on the sides. But the fact that it was very low and absolutely stationary and silent made its very, very odd. After some minutes the lights started to rotate faster and suddenly it took off at really incredible speed to the west. A couple off seconds later we felt a short hard wind blowing staid on top of us like a downwash from a helicopter. If there was a way to describe the speed this thing was going then I give it but I can’t. We had a clear view for over 30 km that’s +- 20 miles ? this thing cover that distance from stationary in some ting like 0.10 sec.  I know aviation and have flying experience and I am very technical. This kind off extreme acceleration turns humans in to liquid. For many year this has been a unspoken chapter in my live, I didn’t wanted to speak about the incident because instantly after the encounter, me and the other cadet became unexplainable very, very ill, and for days suffered a hi fever and extreme vomiting. The illness was so bad that it left me traumatised and not able to speak about it for years.   NOTE: The above image is CGI.

I have seen flying saucers since august 18, 1980.  This was my 8th UFO experience, but I have never seen orbs, only spaceships.  These were orbs, I think, not what I usually experience.  I first noticed the object before dinner, but I just blew it off.  We had dinner on the beach, overlooking the water.  My wife noticed it after dinner, when we went to leave.  I immediately saw a large bright light again, much brighter than the first time, approximately 45 earlier. I knew immediately what it was, a UFO.  We just purchased a camera a few days before, and we went to the waters edge, and started filming.  My wife did.  The object, there were 4-5 of them, were extremely bright, varying in size from a pin head to a quarter. I estimate about half a mile to a mile away from shoreline.  They moved independently, and went from bright small in size, to immensely bright and huge, maybe the size of a quarter.  They moved up and down, remained stationary, and one of them went over land when big, over I would assume sandy hook area, 10-15 miles north of where we were. 

 There were 6-7 people on the beach watching and filming as well.  It was amazing to see.  My feelings…very excited, very controlled.   I wanted to attract them, and stood in the light than ran across the water and did jumping jacks to attract it.   It did not respond.   The objects got extremely big and bright maybe 3-4 times.  These actions unfortunately were not captured on video of photos.  I told my wife to take video, to make sure we had it on video.  I spoke to my cousin on the cell phone throughout part of the experience, because he knows of all the things I have experienced, and I was describing the scene to him as it happened.  I am very lucky to have experienced what I have throughout my life. We never lost sight of the objects.  We left after about an hour or so.  We saw amazing detail of 2 orbs around a tremendous bright round light, sometimes two bright circles of light.  Unfortunately, I do not know how to submit this to you right now, but will have my wife do so in the next few days to a week.  You will be amazed, or maybe not, since this is probably common but it is amazing, and I would like an explanation as to what this is.  I believe it is extra terrestrial.  My wife thinks it was secret military craft, but she also said she did not know what it was. She does not believe in UFO’S, since she has never seen one, but then, she could not explain what we saw.   NOTE: The above image is a rendering.

 

KEN’S NOTE:  This area has been very active with sightings over the years.  Ft Monmouth is nearby and has a two mile dock that protrudes out into the bay.  Military ships can be seen there often.  The bay leads to the Varrazano Bridge and eventually Manhattan.  Check it-out on Google Earth.
