Early in the 1952 UFO sighting wave two discs approached and paced a B-36 bomber in the vicinity of Davis-Monthan AFB, Tucson, Arizona. On May 1, 1952, Major Rudy Pestalozzi, a base intelligence officer, along with an airman, looked up as a B-36 flew overhead and saw two shiny discs overtake the bomber, slow to its speed and position themselves alongside.
The bomber crew, startled by the experience, made an unscheduled landing at the base and were interrogated at length by Major Pestalozzi, who happened to be the base UFO officer. Members of the flight crew had crowded into the starboard blister aft of the wing and looked down at a slight angle to see the closest disc, which was lens- or double-disc-shaped and about 20-25 feet in diameter.
After about 20 seconds, the objects peeled off at an angle of 70-80 degrees from the flight path of the B-36 and sped away.
Major Pestalozzi sent a comprehensive report of the incident to Project Blue Book. Within the next two months the summer 1952 UFO sighting wave reached a crescendo, generating national headlines and stirring up major Government interest, as radar repeatedly detected UFOs, and jet interceptors engaged in cat-and-mouse pursuits. I was a city police officer in Hoonah, Alaska from September 1977 to March 1979. On October 28, 1977 at approximately 2330hrs. I was doing a security patrol check of the city airport a couple miles from Hoonah. This air strip was gravel at the time, no lights, tower or flight control. It was a basic Alaskan daylight dirt air strip approx. 3000 to 3500 feet long, running roughly East to West. On occasions juveniles would race up & down the strip at night with their vehicles. Reason for the patrol checks. The night in question was nearly a full moon rising to the East. Broken “Puffy” clouds to the SE and South, at approx. 5000 to 10,000 feet. Stars observed above and thru clouds. The sky to North, NE, West was clear full of stars. Sky was bright from the Moon to the East. I pulled the patrol vehicle (Chev Blazer) out of the entrance road, turning off my headlights and engine, parking in the parking area to the right of the main taxiway, approx. 150 feet from West end of runaway. I watched to the East, towards the city maintenance shed, which was on the South side of runway toward the East end of the strip. No other vehicles or subjects where observed. No sounds heard, other than river flow near the airport. Night was very quiet. I was getting ready to start vehicle to head back to town, when a very bright white landing light came out of the clouds from the SE at approx. 5000 or 6000 feet. It was approx. 2 to 3 miles from the East end of airstrip slowly dropping in altitude as if going to land.
I still had the vehicle shut down with no engine running or lights on. My driver’s window was down and I could not hear any engine sounds from the aircraft coming towards the airstrip. At the time I believed it was a plane with engine trouble trying to dead stick an emergency landing. Within less than two minutes the aircraft had closed to nearly the East end of the strip and had dropped to less than a couple hundred feet above the runway. Thinking that the pilot might not be able to see the West end of the runway in the Moon Light I started my vehicle and pulled towards the West end of the runway and turned my headlights on high beam shining them on the end of the airstrip. At that time the Aircraft stopped an hovered about 100 to 200 feet above the runway approx. 600 to 700 feet from my vehicle. The bright white landing light went out and the Craft went dark. I could not hear any sound from it, but could see the shape of the Craft silhouetted by the Moon. It was shaped like an upside down funnel with the spout cut off and a round dome on top in place of the spout. On the bottom was what appeared to be a jumble of pipes or tubes hanging down about 15 or 20 feet below the Craft, maybe half a dozen or so. Some looked bent or curved, at right angles, others pointing straight down at different lengths. Over all the Craft was about the width of a twin engine Piper Cherokee, 60 to 80 feet across, maybe 15 feet high, not counting the pipes hanging down. I thought at the time it kind of was shaped like the Jupiter 2 from the TV show from the 1960’s Lost in Space. I didn’t see any windows, just the silhouette. After about about 90 seconds of hovering there not moving I saw lights start slowly flashing around the outside center line of the Craft. They started as red, blue, green, violet, yellow, all colors of the rainbow, moving slowly from left to right. The speed of the lights increased and at that time I could “Feel” a hum from the direction of the Craft, I could feel it in my teeth, thru my body armor into my body, it was “tingly” and I felt pressure building in my ears and around my body. The lights increased in speed until they were just a rainbow of blurred light. I was like it was winding up. I was watching the Craft out the driver’s window and saw it go vertical, straight up incredibly fast to the NE into clear star filled sky.
I started counting one thousand and one when it went and I didn’t make it to one thousand and two before it was completely out of sight, lost in the star field. As soon as it left the pressure or “tingling” was gone. After the incident I wrote up the encounter in my personal notebook, (still have the page) but not in my patrol log note book. I was a new cop and didn’t want to get known as an Officer that “see’s things”, doesn’t look good in Court and would give a defense attorney a opening to dis-credit testimony. I did not report this incident until 20 some years after my retirement from law enforcement and my last court cases and appeals were done. I never forgot this incident and after the invention of the Internet and Laptops I tried to find out if there where another sightings like mine in the North West during that time frame. I also tried to do the math for velocity and G’s. based on the guesstimate of a second and a half to plus 200,000 feet and got roughly 48,000mph and approx. 32G’s from a dead stop to out of sight. On May 7, 1952, Joao Martins and Ed Keffel went to the place called Barra da Tijuca to do a routine job for their magazine. At 4:30 P.M., Martins suddenly spotted an object approaching in the air at high speed. He thought at first it was an airplane he was facing . It looked like an airplane. There was still something strange, Martins realized. That “plane” was flying sideways. He shouted: “What the devil is that?” Keffel had his Rollei-flex at hand and Martins yelled: “Shoot, Keffel!” Ed Keffel grabbed his loaded camera and got five pictures in about sixty seconds, thus obtaining the most sensational photographic sequence of a flying disk.
The following is a personal statement written by Mr. Martins, which was also endorsed and cosigned by Mr. Keffel:
I herewith confirm that in May 1952, I saw an “unidentified aerial object” at Barra da Tijuca, as was published, with every detail, in the review [magazine] 0 Cruzeiro at the time. Together with me was the photographer-reporter Ed Keffel, an exemplary professional, well-succeeded and well-respected for his honesty and seriousness, who obtained a series of photos of the above-referred object.
These photos were also published by the above-mentioned review, for which both of us worked at the time. Besides being a journalist, I am also an engineer; and I also have a large experience and knowledge of meteorological, astronomical, and optical phenomena. I have experience of all known types of aircraft and can state that the referred object cannot be framed in any natural phenomena or aircraft of my knowledge.
Neither I nor Ed Keffel tried to derive any financial profit from the fact. We were at the time exclusively contracted by that review [0 Cruzeiro], and there we handed in our report and the photos, without receiving any extra bonus for either. Neither did we receive-nor did we wish to-any payment from anybody, either for the account or for the photos or for the appearances we were practically obliged to make on different occasions on television… I narrated the fact in free talks to military authorities and university auditoriums.
I do not know what that object was, and because of this, I classified it in the category of “unidentified flying object”, commonly called a “flying saucer.” The incident, besides the annoyances it entailed, contrived to call my attention on the subject as an only advantage, and consequently I have done research on the subject with the greatest detachment, both in sightings here in Brazil and abroad. . .
As to the position of the Sun and the shadows on the foliage, as seen in one of the photos of Barra da Tijuca, it is easy to confirm them. One need only go there; and it is easy to reach the spot, at the same hour and time of year corresponding to the fact. This, in fact, has already been done, back in 1952, by technicians of the Brazilian Air Force, as was later divulged in detail by researcher Cleto Nunes by means of TV and the Press.
Criticism, denial of the facts, or discussions by whoever does not know the subject or knows it from a distance or through reading third-hand publications, that are usually incorrect, can only be due to intolerance or dishonesty of purpose. As to me, I ignore them, for I am a professional who does not base his career on that report, nor have I the time to lose in sterile debates. I reported merely what I saw and whatever I had to say has been said.

Hi Ken– hope you are well my friend : It was the early hours of the morning, and I was looking out of my open bedroom window to see if the moon was visible, but unfortunately it was not. It was cloudy, but there were however some brakes in the clouds here and there. Disappointed that I couldn’t photograph the moon I went to close the window when all of a sudden I thought I saw something dart across a large brake in the clouds, where the sky was visible, so I immediately zoomed in on the area with my Nikon P900 camera and took some photographs, and while I was in the process of doing so, something large flew across the sky. I thought to myself “That was very odd”. I then close the window and put down my camera on the side table and then went straight to bed for some much-needed sleep. I woke up later that morning and I instantly remembered that I had photographed something strange out of the bedroom window in the early hours of the morning. I was very intrigued to see what I had captured, so I quickly got out of bed and got ready. I then went over to my camera and pulled out the S.D. card, which I then took over to the computer. Looking at the image on the monitor I could see that I had indeed captured something rather odd in the photograph, so I brightened it up revealing that I had captured a large metallic looking UFO in the photograph. This is very unusual it was pitch black outside when I took this photograph and there was no sound of any aircraft or anything else for that matter. What on earth could this large aerial object be? It clearly has structure to It, and it definitely seems to be metallic in nature. What had I captured flying over this area in the early hours of the morning. This is quite incredible… It looks like a rocket ship from an old comic book. The photograph was taken at 3:14 AM on the 30th of June 2021, at Newton Abbot Devon England. All the best John.

On June 14th at about 7 pm I was walking my two dogs, a 12 y/o pointer and a 4 y/o huskie near my house as I always do at this time of the day. I live on a street that is fairly rural in a gated community. Behind my house is forest. Approximately 100 feet from my house is a dead end street that leads to a community pump house approximately 50 yards down from the main road and ends in a dead end with green belt forest behind it. The building is approximately 20 feet wide by 20 feet long totaling 400 square feet. It is one story tall wood frame about 15 feet tall. Behind it is an open area covered in straw approximately the same size as the building. A rolled up cyclone fence is directly behind the building and then nothing but straw until you reach the forest line which is another 15 feet or so. The area is surrounded by very tall black elm trees about 80 feet tall. To the right of the pump house when looking from the main road (Farrier Lane) are elevated power cables. Approximately 4 cables on poles going north to south on the right side of the building about 10 feet east of the building. There is a small opening in the trees right behind the pump house. One of the trees is dead and has its leaves on it also dead. My pointer became hyper aware of something from my position while my young huskie was too absorbed to notice. The pointer began to stare at the pump house as if hyper alert and still. Just then I noticed what seemed to be a shadow rising behind the pumphouse. It began as a black semi-circle approximately the same width as the pumphouse. It rose slowly like a balloon. Not rushed. But it was the same width as the house almost exactly at 20 feet wide. As it leisurely rose it assumed the form of a sphere 20 feet wide by twenty feet tall. It was black against the trees and the blue sky and slowly rose through what seemed to be the only opening in the trees. When it just about cleared the tree line it began to move away from me in a southernly direction leisurely. No one has balloons launching here nor would anyone have anything so large. It moved away from me slowly until it was lost behind the trees. I wrote about my experience several days later on my community webpage for people interested in UFOs and and Astronomy. On 6/29 Bob Spearing, the administrator of the Facebook group page contacted me and we met on the morning of 6/30 about 11:30 a.m. with a friend of his. He belongs to MUFON as an investigator. I am also a member of MUFON. Mr. Spearing had an EMF Meter and a Radiation Meter. Everything was normal in the EMF and Microwave scale as well as the radiation meter which registered under 65 clicks per minute. Precisely where the object rose there was a dead tree, very mature, with dried leaves on it in an otherwise healthy forest. Also, at the time we met there were two employees from the community (Hemlock Farms) water department doing an inspection. A fellow named Tom engaged us and was very interested. He said his team had never experienced anything unusual inside the building concerning its instruments nor outside. He advised that due to teen drinking in the remote locations the community’s public safety department conducted hourly rounds at the location every hour from dusk until dawn and may have more info. One additional comment about the building. There is a power company meter outside on the wall of the building. When the EMF meter was put near it the meter went off the scale. Otherwise all reading by Mr. Spearing were normal. Mr. Spearing advised me he is going to take two soil samples. One from the target area and one from 50 feet away so that they can be tested.
