We were sitting on our balcony looking out to sea across to Benidorm Island when a strange object suddenly appeared to the right of the horizon. It kept haphazardly pulsating and appeared to change shape and glowed. It moved from west to east and appeared to go over the top of Benidorm Island and then we could not see any more as our view was obstructed by several buildings, as shown in the picture taken the following morning. At first, we thought it was an aeroplane, but then realized it definitely was not as many aeroplanes pass over the island and none of them looked anything like what we saw. We both felt very excited at the thought that it could have been a UFO.
I spotted an orange light moving around the clear night sky. At first I thought it was from the street lights below the balcony. It was appearing in my vision when I looked up, but once I realized it was an actual light, I went to get my phone to take pictures. When I returned I couldn’t find it for a moment or so but when I did locate it, it had moved in the sky within the view of the moon and a really bright star which I guess was Venus. I took 3 photos in succession then checked my phone to see if I had got a good picture, which I have. Then when I looked back up to take more pictures I couldn’t find it anywhere.
The print was found and a scan made 12/5/09. My father never mentioned seeing the object but when we returned to the States in 1959, I remember him being a friend of Roger Early who was somehow connected with Project Blue Book. I believe the neg may have been given to Early. I do know that from living in Torremolinos, kids back then did not play with kites, model planes or paper planes. All the kids on the beach were poor fishermen’s kids. My father used a Nikon Rangefinder camera, Plus-x film and was shooting the fishing boat to use as a subject in one of his paintings. He was a famous painter (Google: Ben Stahl). The exposure seems to be f8 or 16 @ 1/250 or 1/125 because of the frozen action of the waves in the photograph and the depth of field. It’s not a blur of a bird, tear on the neg or delamination on the print. The print has a fold (visable on the picture across the horizon). The surface of the original print is clean. I used “unsharp mask” in photoshop to bring the scan in better focus.
This produced marking on the body of the object. Note the shadows on the object are consistant with shadows on the man behind the boat. The man is shielding his eyes and looking at something down the beach, in the sky or out at sea and not at the object overhead. Perhaps there were two objects? The object in the photograph has an odd perspective as it looks far away yet close over the shore line. Also, note the disturbance in the air at both ends of the object. It also cannot be something on the lens as this would be totally blown out of focus. I’ve searched other photographs and have failed to see any other object with the same shape. Bruce Maccabee saw the image and could not come up with an answer as to what it could be. Nothing in a camera, especially a SLR, can produce such an effect. If something was thrown in front of the camera it would not have produced the “air disturbance” as shown – these are not developing streaks either. Please let me know what you think. I was sitting on the balconery of my home, which is on the top floor in a five levels bulding. I was watching the Pleyades in the Taurus constelation which in this time of the night (0:11min) was pointed at NW in the sky. The night was clear with few small almost static clouds and some stars. There wern’t any strange noises, just the wind and the noise of some vehicles circling through the street below. Suddenly I had noticed a blinking powerfull white light. I turned my look at that point and I saw it again. It was something hovering above me in extremelly slow motion. The direction of the object was North – South in about 80º above the horizon. Some flashes were with less power than others, but the white light was pure an very clean. The object seemed like taking photographs of the area. the distance was not more than ~3000 – ~3500 feet (~900 – 1000m.) I took my phone and I’ve started recording this light on video. The camera of my phone has very high resolution ( ~21 Mpx). In some time the object had changes its direction from North-South to West-East at the same angle respect to the horizon (~80º) very slow ( I guess not more than 5 – 8 km/h) and vanished or stopped flashing its light. There were no pattern between each flash to another. It wasn’t an helicopter nor a plane. I’ve took a picture from the video record which I’ll post on this website.
